The Chevron Story

In 1911, Standard Oil disintegrated under the Sherman Antitrust Act. Standard Oil Co, one of the breakouts, was eventually rebranded as Chevron. This company was part of an oil-producing cartel known as the Seven Sisters, known for its dominance in the global oil market in the early 2oth century.

Chevron now owns the trademark of the defunct Standard Oil in 16 U.S states, some of which are southeastern states while the others are western states. The company runs a station in each state. Chevron wasn't fully adopted as the company's name at the time. It was mostly used for some of the company's retail products in the 30s. The company also used its other name, Calso, from the mid-40s to the mid-50s in territories behind its home territory.

Standard Oil merged with Gulf Oil in a massive merge deal in 1984. Later that year, the company officially adopted Chevron Corporation as its legal name after using the name for some of its retail products for several years. In 2000, Chevron bought Texaco for $45 billion, making it the 2nd largest oil firm in the U.S. Chevron has been on an acquisition spree since then.

In 2020, the company considered merging with ExxonMobil, but the deal didn't go through. This year, Chevron is among the companies to report a significant increase in its revenues and profits. In 1913, Chevron initially began operations in Nigeria when Texaco products were sold in the countryside. However, the company became indigenized in 1978.
