The Schneider Electric Story

Schneider Electric was established as Schneider & Cie in 1836 by Joseph-Eugene and Adolphe Schneider in an abandoned metal company in France. This newly formed company quickly gained prominence in the steel industry and was known for its transportation equipment and heavy machinery. In 1871, this company became a manufacturer of weapons for the French government after France was defeated in the Franco-Prussian war.
 
This company gradually established more branches in France and other parts of the world. In the 60s, Belgium's Empain group merged with Schneider to create Empain-Schneider. In 1980-1981, Paribas bought the major stakes from the Empain family. Paribas became a government company in 1982. Schneider became a sole private body once more, and it diverted from the steel industry to electricity. The company made this move by acquiring Télémécanique in 1988. Three years later, Schneider acquired Square D, and in 1992, it acquired Gerin.
 
In 1999, Schneider rebranded as Schneider Electric. In 2017, this company acquired AVEVA Group PLC, an engineering and industrial software firm. During its expansion in Africa, Schneider Electric opened offices in Nigeria. In 2020, this company introduced a new company that rectified the grid faults common among electricity distribution firms in Nigeria.
