The MRS Oil Story

In 1913, this company started selling petrochemicals as Texaco. Fifty-six years later, Texaco Nigeria Ltd became a complete subsidiary of Texaco Africa Ltd, and this gives it access to the operations carried out by the latter in the country. When the Indigenisation decree was promulgated in 1978, this triggered the purchase of 40% of Texaco Nig Ltd by various organizations and individuals.

In 1990, the company dropped the use of "Ltd" and adopted "PLC" because it was publicly listed on the Nigeria Stock Exchange. In 2001, Texaco merged with Chevron to become ChevronTexaco. When the newly formed company considered buying the former UNOCAL, its board of directors rebranded from "ChevronTexaco" to Chevron.

In 2009, MRS Holdings Ltd acquired the downstream assets of Chevron. This led to the creation of MRS Oil Nigeria PLC. Since then, the company has become one of Nigeria's largest downstream energy companies.
